The adventure begins in the bustling and vibrant Medellín, where we meet early to check the equipment, get to know your motorcycle, and receive a brief orientation on the route, riding modes, and road rules. After this, we will mount our motorcycles and, after navigating the lively traffic of Medellín, we'll ride the winding roads to Doradal, a small town with a Mediterranean touch, also known as the "Colombian Santorini" for its cluster of white houses with blue windows and doors, and cobbled streets that provide a picturesque, cozy atmosphere inspired by the Mediterranean architecture of Santorini, Greece.
In Doradal, you can also visit the renowned Hacienda Nápoles, a vast estate that belonged to Pablo Escobar and has now been converted into a massive zoo and water park with a great biodiversity of animals, including hippos brought by Escobar. In Doradal, you can enjoy bocachico, a fish from the Magdalena River, traditionally grilled or fried, accompanied by patacones and coconut rice. To refresh yourself, try guarapo, a traditional panela drink. The local hospitality is the perfect touch for a first day that promises much more to come.
Day 2 Itinerary: Doradal to Florián
Elevation Map:
Today we head to Florián, but first, we will pass through the municipality of Puerto Boyacá, an area surrounded by green landscapes that exemplify the natural diversity of this region. The road offers panoramic views of lush vegetation, and the fresh air surrounding the way is perfect for an immersive experience in Colombian nature.
Florián is a picturesque town in Santander known as the "City of Open Windows," thanks to the rock formations high in a mountain called the "Windows of Tisquizoque," a system of natural windows from which an impressive waterfall with three water drops falls. This waterfall originates from the entrance of a cave, with a 300-meter drop that leaves visitors breathless and fascinated, especially when learning about the indigenous legends surrounding this formation.
Throughout this day, we will enjoy panoramic views of the mountainous surroundings of the town. Upon arrival, we can try some typical products of the region such as carne oreada, taste the famous goat cheeses made artisanally in the area, walk through the cobbled streets of the town, enjoy a cup of the delicious local coffee, and discover the tranquility that is breathed in this corner of Santander.
Day 3 Itinerary: Florian to Guadalupe
Elevation Map:
After a good Colombian breakfast and a delicious coffee loaded with energy, we will head to Guadalupe, first passing through the municipality of Vélez, a small town that stands out as the Folkloric Capital of Colombia. During our stop, we will learn about the process of making bocadillo, observe the artisanal techniques used, and taste this Colombian delight exported throughout the country. The locals here are famous for their hospitality and traditions, and you will find many still dedicated to the artisanal production of these sweets.
We will then head to Guadalupe, where the natural beauty of the Las Gachas river will leave you breathless. This natural paradise is an unmissable experience, with its unique natural pools in red rocks forming "jacuzzis" in the middle of nature, ideal for a refreshing bath. In Guadalupe, we will have the opportunity to try one of the most representative dishes of this region, the mute santandereano, a soup prepared with pork, chickpeas, ripe plantain, cassava, corn, and other ingredients. This dish is characterized by its strong and robust flavor and is usually served with a good aguapanela.
After enjoying the natural wonders of Guadalupe, we will relax in this picturesque town, and for dinner, we will enjoy another typical dish of the region, oven-roasted goat, accompanied by peeled corn arepa, another culinary tradition of the region.
