This exciting five-day trip takes us on a tour full of adventure, history and relaxation through the most impressive volcanic landscapes of the Andes and the charming coffee-growing towns of Colombia. Starting in Medellín, we will head to Manizales, known for its welcoming atmosphere, vibrant cultural scene and unique landscapes where we will soak in the relaxing hot springs near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano before heading to the historic cities of Murillo and Armero, where We will witness the moving remains of Colombia’s volcanic past. As we continue towards Filandia and Salento, we will be captivated by the colorful architecture and lush coffee plantations that adorn the mountains and culminate in the serene beauty of the Cocora Valley, home of the towering wax palms.

Our adventure doesn’t end there. In Santa Rosa de Cabal, we will take a relaxing and rejuvenating bath in natural hot springs surrounded by lush green landscapes. Starting from Medellín, travel through the historic and scenic regions of Manizales, Volcan Nevado del Ruiz, Murillo and Armero, visit the iconic Machín Volcano and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Filandia and Salento. End your adventure with a rejuvenating stay in Santa Rosa de Cabal before returning to Medellín.

Itinerary

Medellín: We gather early in Medellín for safety checks and to review the motorcycle basics. We will discuss the day's route and the adventure that awaits us. Our journey will begin at 9:00 am.

Ride: Today's route will cover approximately 200 km of paved roads from Medellín to Manizales, the "City of Open Doors." We will enjoy a scenic ride with stops to appreciate the changing landscapes. The route will have altitude changes from around 1,500 m to 3,000 m, with average temperatures of 16°C to 24°C, so it is advisable to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared for cooler morning temperatures. We will stop at a typical Antioquian restaurant along the way to enjoy a "bandeja paisa" for lunch.

Manizales: Upon arrival, we will check into a hotel with hot springs located in a forested area near the Nevado del Ruiz volcano. Here, you can relax and soak in the mineral-rich hot springs, enjoying the natural beauty of the surroundings. In the afternoon, you can explore Manizales and discover the city's highlights, including its historical monuments and vibrant cultural scene. We will enjoy a traditional dinner or delicious grilled meat and return to the hotel for a restful night.

Day 2 Itinerary: Manizales to Cajamarca

Elevation Map:

Manizales: After a good typical breakfast early in the morning, we will leave Manizales, known as the world capital of coffee. Today we have a long route, so it will be ideal to meet at 7:00 am.

Ride: Today's journey will cover approximately 280 km, mostly paved. We will travel through the Los Nevados National Park and have the opportunity to appreciate its unique vegetation and landscapes. We will visit memorial sites and places of historical importance in the area. The route will have altitude changes from 3,200 m to 300 m, with temperatures varying between 15°C and 28°C. Wearing comfortable clothing and having waterproof clothing handy will help adjust to the variable climate. We will stop in Ibagué for lunch and try "lechona," one of the area's most authentic dishes.

Cajamarca: A small city full of fertile lands, known as one of the most important agricultural hubs in the country. We will head into the mountains to stay at an eco hotel with hot springs near the Cerro Machín volcano. Here, you can relax, enjoy a traditional dinner, and have a restful night in preparation for the next day's adventure.

 

Day 3 Itinerary: Cajamarca to Filandia

Elevation Map:

Cajamarca: In the early morning, if desired, you will have time for a relaxing bath in the hot springs. After a good Colombian breakfast with authentic coffee, we will perform a brief inspection of our motorcycles and meet at 10:00 am to start the day's journey.

Ride: Today's route will be approximately 150 km. We will travel through incredible landscapes and picturesque coffee towns towards Filandia. The route will be mostly paved, with altitude changes from 1,300 m to 1,900 m, with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 25°C. Prepare for a mix of warm and cool temperatures. Although the weather on the route is pleasant, having waterproof clothing handy for possible sudden rains is recommended. Stay hydrated. We will have lunch in an authentic coffee town and enjoy a delicious "tamal tolimense."

Filandia: After checking into a local boutique hotel in the city center, you can explore Filandia by walking through its streets, admiring the colorful balconies and lush vegetation. You can also visit some of its craft shops or enjoy a cup of locally sourced coffee thanks to the wide variety of cafés in the streets. In the evening, we will enjoy a traditional dinner and return to the hotel for a restful night.

Day 4 Itinerary: Filandia to Santa Rosa de Cabal via Salento and Cocora

Elevation Map:

Filandia: After a good Paisa breakfast accompanied by a great cup of coffee, we will meet at 9:00 am, prepare our motorcycles, and bid farewell to Filandia with one last look at its colorful streets and colonial architecture.

Ride: Today's journey will be approximately 100 km through enchanting coffee landscapes. We will make stops in the Cocora Valley, home of the imposing wax palms. Here, you can enjoy hiking or horseback riding along the valley's scenic trails. We will also stop in Salento, with its traditional Paisa architecture, it is one of the most charming towns in the coffee region. The route will have altitude changes from 1,900 m to 2,400 m, with temperatures between 17°C and 22°C. Wearing comfortable clothing for walking in the valley and carrying water to stay hydrated will be very helpful.

Santa Rosa de Cabal: We will continue to Santa Rosa de Cabal, known for its hot springs. Here, we will have a delicious "chorizo santarrosano" for lunch before checking into a hotel with access to hot springs where you can soak in the therapeutic hot springs, surrounded by lush green landscapes. We will enjoy a traditional dinner and return to the hotel for a restful night.

Day 5 Itinerary: Santa Rosa de Cabal to Medellín

Morning

Santa Rosa de Cabal: We will have a delicious "caldo de costilla" for breakfast to recharge our energy. You can enjoy a bit more of the hotel's surrounding nature or its relaxing and therapeutic hot springs before meeting at 10:30 am for one last check of our motorcycle and start our final journey.

Ride: Today's route will cover around 200 km. We will continue the journey back to Medellín, traveling through lush green landscapes and along the Cauca River. The altitude will vary between 2,200 m and 500 m, with temperatures from 20°C to 29°C. It is advisable to wear comfortable and cool clothing and carry water to stay hydrated. Our journey will end with panoramic views of mountainous valleys before approaching the vibrant Medellín.

Every motorcycle adventure tour we offer starts and concludes in the lively and secure city of Medellin, Colombia, where you'll find a variety of hotels, restaurants, and attractions.

Preparation Before Departure 

Before you set off on your adventure, we’ll provide you with a briefing on the road regulations in Colombia, local traditions, and essential etiquette. You'll also receive training on how to operate a pre-programmed GPS device, along with a packet that includes hotel vouchers, daily maps, points of interest, local highlights, and hidden gems to customize your trip.

On Departure Day 

When your departure day arrives, you will be supplied with your adventure motorcycle, fully equipped with a waterproof luggage system, a first aid kit, spare inner tubes (or a tire repair kit), tools, and a prepaid mobile phone for assistance. We will conduct a comprehensive vehicle inspection to ensure everything is in working order, and you'll be informed about emergency procedures.

Experience the Adventure  

Our tours are crafted to navigate well-maintained roads with light traffic and include scheduled stops along the way. You’re encouraged to discover at your own pace, taking the chance to capture photos and engage with the welcoming locals in safe, off-the-beaten-path locations.

Support and Monitoring  

Our team will monitor your journey through GPS and is available by phone for assistance with route adjustments, roadside emergencies, or any other support you may need.

Weather Conditions

Be prepared for a range of weather conditions, with temperatures varying from chilly in the higher altitudes to warm or hot in the lower areas. Rain can occur, particularly during certain months and in specific regions.

Lodging:

Our all-inclusive tours feature nightly accommodations with private or shared rooms. While most of our lodging options are private, there may be instances—particularly in remote areas or with larger groups—where shared rooms are necessary. However, shared room arrangements are typically optional, and if you are traveling with a passenger, we ensure comfortable accommodations suited to your preference.

Meals: 

Each tour includes a hearty breakfast every morning, with select snacks and beverages offered in certain locations. We intentionally do not include lunch or dinner in the tour package to allow for personal preferences in food quality and choice. At every stop, we’ll recommend local dining options based on your tastes, guiding you toward both familiar favorites and authentic Colombian dishes that enrich your travel experience. Colombia offers a variety of regional specialties, and part of the journey is indulging in these culinary delights as you explore different parts of the country.

Preparation and Packing 

We will supply you with comprehensive packing lists and preparation instructions. It’s advisable to have a basic understanding of motorcycle maintenance and repairs before your tour begins.

BOOKING AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Multi-Day Motorcycle Tours & Rentals

  • Full Refund: We do not allow full refunds on our tour purchases.
  • Tour Deposit (Cancellations): Due to the fact we pre-book hotel bookings we will not refunded your motorcycle deposit for tour cancellations. 
  • Rental Deposit (Cancellations): Due to our pre-booked motorcycles & tour schedules, our motorcycle deposits are only refundable after your rental period is completed without damages, purposes and a full tank of gas.
  • Trip Cancellation Insurance: 5% of the tour cost, payable at booking.
  • Insurance Coverage: Provides credit towards a future tour with us.

Reason for policy: Tours and accommodations are pre-booked sometimes months in advance, necessitating confirmed motorcycle availability for all our clients.

Covered Cancellation Scenarios

Credit given if cancellation is due to:

  • Cancellation with our Insurance Coverage policy
  • Extreme sickness, accidental injury, or death (documentation required).
  • Involvement in a traffic accident on the way to the tour or before
    (police report needed).
  • Adverse situations affecting the ability to join the tour
    (war, terrorism, natural disasters, strikes).

Additional Notes

Colombia Motorcycle Rental & Tour reserves the right to cancel your tour based on the legitimacy or illegitimacy of each rider’s experience level based on intake form. .

Each rider must come equipped with:

  • Valid motorcycle driver’s license.
  • Information on their experience levels.
  • Honest details about themselves, including where they are from and any other required information required during our booking process.
