The impact of television on
people's perspectives on Colombia
For many people, their image of Colombia is shaped by movies and television shows that focus on drug wars, violence, and instability. While that period of history was real, it no longer reflects everyday life across most of the country. Modern Colombia is defined by welcoming communities, growing cities, and some of the most diverse and spectacular landscapes in the world. What appears on screen is dramatic and outdated, the Colombia you experience on the road is friendly, peaceful, and forward-looking.
After years of running motorcycle tours across Colombia, safety remains our number one priority. We believe in intelligent riding, minimizing risk, and using true local knowledge to plan every day’s route — ideally with one of our trusted Colombian guides.
Our operating guidelines are designed to keep every ride controlled and predictable:
- No night riding
- Routes and daily distances are planned in advance
- Road closures, landslides, and construction zones are monitored
- We consult locals and authorities about current conditions
- Routes are adapted when needed instead of forcing a plan
- We ride at a steady pace and never at high speeds
Colombia’s roads are constantly changing, and no day is ever completely predictable, that is part of the adventure. What matters is how those variables are managed.
To date, we have:
Never encountered
armed groups
Never experienced corruption from
police or military
Never had a security-related
incident involving our clients
with awareness, respect, and common sense.
We also set clear
expectations for all riders:
- No riding at night
- Start riding early to allow time for mechanical issues, downed bikes or downed roads
- No excessive alcohol or drug consumption and absolutely no drinking and riding
- Avoid nightlife and risky behavior
- No drug use
- Respect local laws and customs
- Show respect toward women and maintain a humble, respectful attitude toward local communities
If you arrive in each town and village with a friendly mindset, treat people with respect, and ride responsibly, you will not encounter problems. Colombians are among the most generous and helpful people in the world, and our team and local guides are always available to support you throughout your journey.
We intentionally avoid any areas with current or potential instability, including:
- Border regions near Venezuela
- The Colombian Llanos and Amazon basin
- Southern Colombia, particularly areas of Cauca south of Cali
- Remote high-altitude páramo crossings between Cauca, Huila, Nariño, and Putumayo
- Certain isolated coastal backroads
The result is simple:
- We ride where Colombia is welcoming, stable, and spectacular
- We plan carefully
- We respect the country and its people
- And we maintain a perfect security record with our clients
