Day 1: Medellín → Cerro Tusa → Jardín | Approx. Distance: 175 km Riding Time: 5–6 hours We begin the day leaving Medellín, climbing out of the Aburrá Valley and into the lush, misty Andes. The ride south is a perfect mix of curves and mountain switchbacks, offering panoramic views of the green coffee hillsides. Our first highlight is Cerro Tusa, the world’s largest natural pyramid, an awe-inspiring landmark with cultural significance for both ancient and modern Colombia. Many people know it as the highlight logo for the Colombian Coffee Federation. Here we stop for photos and to breathe in the mountain air before continuing our descent into the valley below. From there, the road snakes along dramatic cliffs and fertile valleys until we reach Ciudad Bolívar, a traditional coffee town where life revolves around the main square. We’ll enjoy a hearty local lunch, perhaps beans, plantains, and grilled meats, before remounting the bikes. The afternoon ride is a gradual climb toward Jardín, widely regarded as one of Colombia’s most beautiful pueblos. The entrance into town is unforgettable: bright balconies, cobblestone streets, and horses clip-clopping into the plaza as if time has stood still. After checking into our boutique hotel, the evening is free to explore. You can sip a tinto on the plaza, ride the cable car for sunset views, or visit the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking the town.
