Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about motorcycle rentals, tours, safety, and travel requirements.

How do I reserve a motorcycle?

To reserve a motorcycle, you can contact us via WhatsApp  email, or by completing our online inquiry form. Once we receive your request, we will schedule an introductory call to discuss your trip to Colombia, answer any questions, and learn how you would like to ride.

During this call, we can also provide packing tips, route recommendations, and share maps to help you plan your adventure. After the consultation, we will send you a customized quote based on your travel dates, riding preferences, motorcycle selection, and accommodation options.

If you have specific requirements or budget considerations, we can adjust the itinerary and tour details to match your needs. To secure your booking, a reservation deposit is required. This confirms your trip in our calendar and reserves your motorcycle rental or tour.

Yes, we receive this question frequently and understand the concerns many travelers may have. Colombia is a beautiful country known for its friendly, welcoming, and hospitable people. Like any destination in the world, it’s important to take basic precautions and remain aware of your surroundings.

Having lived in and traveled throughout Colombia for years, and working closely with the local motorcycle community, we can confidently say that our experiences have been overwhelmingly positive. Colombia has changed dramatically over the past two decades and has become one of South America’s most exciting travel destinations.

For our guests, we carefully design routes and tours through some of the safest and most scenic regions of the country. By following our recommended routes and guidelines, riders can comfortably explore Colombia’s mountains, historic towns, and cultural regions.

Our mission is simple: to ensure every rider enjoys a safe, unforgettable motorcycle adventure while experiencing the very best that Colombia has to offer.

The best motorcycle for your trip depends on several factors, including your riding experience, height, whether you are traveling with a passenger, and the type of riding you plan to do.

For multi-day trips and longer adventures outside the city, we often recommend lightweight adventure motorcycles such as the Honda XRE 190 or Hero XPulse 200. These bikes are reliable, comfortable for longer distances, and well suited for Colombia’s diverse terrain.

For day trips and shorter adventures, motorcycles like the Honda XR150, XR190, or Hero XPulse 200 are very popular among local riders and are capable of reaching most destinations safely and comfortably.

Road conditions in Colombia can be very different from those in many other countries. Smaller, lightweight motorcycles are often the best choice, as they are easier to handle on mountain roads, rural routes, and mixed terrain. In most cases, motorcycles under 300cc provide more than enough power for exploring the country.

Ultimately, the best option is to speak with our team so we can recommend the motorcycle that best fits your riding style, route, and travel plans.

Note: If we do not have the motorcycle model that you are searching for, we will do our very best to help you find one locally from a local dealer or partnering company that we trust.

All rentals from Colombia Motorcycle Rental & Tour Co. include a helmet, gloves, reflective safety vest, phone mount, and USB charger. Optional luggage and storage solutions are also available.

All motorcycles are equipped with SOAT, the mandatory Colombian medical insurance required for all vehicles. Additional riding gear can be provided at a low cost if needed.

For guided tours and self-guided tours with hotel bookings, we provide a more complete equipment package that may include helmets, protective riding jackets, knee protection, rain gear, dry bags, Rok Straps or similar luggage straps, saddlebags, first aid kits, tool kits, air pumps, spare tubes, and other essential items for longer rides.

If you prefer to bring or purchase your own gear, we can also help arrange equipment in advance or direct you to trusted local gear dealers before your arrival.

Simply let us know your needs, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Our standard motorcycle rental period is 24 hours.

Our regular operating hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but we can arrange special pickups, drop-offs, or deliveries upon request.

If you prefer a same-day rental, you are welcome to pick up the motorcycle at 9:00 AM and return it by 5:00 PM.

We also offer special pricing for extended rentals, multi-day trips, and tours, depending on the motorcycle model and the number of riders in your group.

For the best experience, we recommend contacting our team to discuss your plans so we can help determine the rental option that works best for your trip.

When preparing for a motorcycle trip in Colombia, it’s best to pack light and bring only the essentials.

Here are some recommended items:

Riding Gear
Bring proper motorcycle riding gear such as a helmet, jacket, gloves, riding pants, and boots. If needed, we can provide a helmet. Merino wool base layers are highly recommended, as they help regulate temperature and keep you comfortable in both warm and cold climates.

Comfortable Clothing
Pack lightweight clothing for when you’re off the bike, such as t-shirts, shorts, and packable sandals. Temperatures can be cooler in the high Andes, so it’s also a good idea to bring a warm layer.

Rain Gear
Weather in Colombia can change quickly, especially in the mountains. A lightweight rain jacket and waterproof pants are highly recommended.

Sun Protection
Bring sunscreen and sunglasses to protect yourself from strong sun exposure, particularly at higher elevations.

Electronics and charging
We provide a phone mount and USB charger on the motorcycle, but we recommend bringing a power bank, quality charging cables (USB and USB-C), and your charging adapter. Colombia uses 120V outlets with Type A or Type B plugs, the same as in the United States.

Straps & Packing Supplies
It’s helpful to bring your own luggage straps and bags if you have them. We also provide or rent straps and drybags for our tours and rentals if needed. Extra heavy-duty zip lock bags are highly recommended to store wet clothing, protect passports and documents, and keep electronics dry. Zip ties are also a useful item to carry for quick fixes while traveling.

Toiletries & Travel Essentials
A small toiletry kit, quick-dry towel, and swimwear are useful for longer trips. Cash and credit cards While many places accept credit cards, it’s a good idea to carry some Colombian pesos for small restaurants, fuel stops, or rural areas.

Pack Light
Most beginner riders tend to overpack. We recommend bringing only the essentials—ideally just enough socks and underwear for the days you plan to ride. Merino wool items can often be worn multiple days without issue. Our standard dry bags hold 30–35 liters, which is usually more than enough for most riders. If you have extra luggage, you are welcome to store it safely at our office while you ride.

To rent a motorcycle in Colombia, you will need the following documents:

  • Valid Driver’s License

You must have a valid motorcycle driver’s license from your home country. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended for international travelers but is not always required. Please bring the original license or IDP, as copies are not accepted.

  • Passport

A valid passport or government-issued identification is required to complete the rental agreement.

  • Credit Card

A valid credit card is required to make a reservation and hold a security deposit for the motorcycle rental. We recommend confirming any additional requirements with our team in advance to ensure you have everything needed for your trip.

Details about our rental policies, pricing, and conditions are available on our website

We are based in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín, Colombia and operate primarily through a remote and delivery-based service model. Our motorcycles are stored at secure private locations, allowing us to provide flexible pickup and delivery options for our clients.

Most rentals are typically arranged at Hotel Poblado Alejandría, which we also recommend as a convenient place for many of our guests to stay. The exact pickup location in El Poblado will be confirmed with you before your rental or tour begins.

We also offer motorcycle delivery services to hotels, Airbnbs, or other locations in Medellín for an additional fee.

For riders planning longer trips, we can also help arrange one-way rentals between Medellín and other major cities such as Bogotá. If a motorcycle needs to be returned to Medellín after your trip, we can coordinate transportation and pickup logistics.

Because our operations and locations may evolve as our company grows, we recommend contacting our team directly for the most up-to-date pickup and delivery information.
