Itinerary

Medellín: Today’s journey starts in Medellín. We will meet early to review the equipment, get to know your motorcycle, and receive a brief orientation on the route, riding modes, and road rules. We will bid farewell to the city with one last look at its vibrant urban energy as we head into the Eastern Cordillera.

Ride: Today's ride will be a route test to gain confidence and get familiar with your motorcycle. We will descend from mountainous Medellín to the tropical valleys of Antioquia in Doradal, a 172 km ride with an average descent from 1,500 m to 200 m. The route offers panoramic views of the Antioquian mountains. Along the way, we can try hot chocolate with cheese, a common combination in the Colombian mountains, or a refreshing guarapo, a drink made from sugar cane and lemon, typical of this warm region. The journey will take us to an altitude of about 200 m with average temperatures of 27°C/32°C, so it is advisable to wear comfortable and cool clothing, keeping in mind that the morning will be a bit chilly.

We will stay in a cozy quality hotel with a refreshing pool, perfect for Doradal’s heat. Dinner will include fried fish accompanied by patacones, a very typical dish of the area. For meat lovers, the cuts here are also a delight, as it is a region with large cattle production. You can explore the village streets and dine in a Mediterranean ambiance. In Doradal, you can also find the renowned Hacienda Nápoles, a large estate that belonged to Pablo Escobar and is now a huge zoo and water park with a great biodiversity of animals, including hippos introduced to the country by Escobar.

Ride: The route will be 180-200 km, taking us through mountainous rural landscapes. Along the way, we will pass through areas adorned with coffee and banana plantations. We will make strategic stops to appreciate the beautiful landscapes and learn about the daily lives of local farmers, who often share stories about emerald mines. The altitude will gradually increase, with maximum altitudes of 1,200 m, and the temperatures will be cooler, so it is advisable to wear additional layers of clothing to stay comfortable. Along this journey, we will have the chance to taste fresh guarapo, perfect for staying hydrated in the warm climate of the lower areas.

Muzo: The world capital of emeralds, Muzo is a small town hidden in the Boyacá mountains, full of mining history and culture. After checking into the hotel, we can explore the lively town, where crafts made with emeralds are true treasures. For dinner, we will enjoy typical dishes such as ajiaco, a popular vegetable soup, or delicious grilled meat prepared in a special local way, highly appreciated by locals. Muzo is recognized as the world capital of emeralds due to the quality and quantity of precious stones extracted here.

Day 3 Itinerary: Exploration in Muzo

Elevation Map:

Muzo: We will start the day with a delicious caldo to boost our energy. The day begins with a visit to the emerald mines, where we will learn about the hard work of the miners or "huaqueros" who search for these precious stones. Muzo: After delving into the mining world, we will have time to explore Muzo at our own pace. We will visit local shops and talk to artisans who work with emeralds to create unique jewelry. This is a great time to buy souvenirs and understand more about the local economy based on these precious stones. In the evening, we will enjoy a family-style dinner, tasting local delights such as Boyacá arepas and yuca empanadas. This will be a perfect end to a day filled with history and authenticity, where the hospitality of the locals will make this an unforgettable experience.
